The John Deere AR is a 2WD standard-tread tractor manufactured by John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa, USA from 1935 to 1953. This first generation was manufactured from 1935 to 1941.
The AR and AO model was the “regular”, or fixed-tread version of the model A. The John Deere AR was the fixed tread version for general use, the AO was the orchard version.
The JD AR is equipped with one of two engines: a 5.1 L (309.0 cu·in) two-cylinder all-fuel engine or a 5.3 L (321.0 cu·in) two-cylinder all-fuel engine and a unsynchronized gear type transmission with 4 forward and 1 reverse gears and dry disc clutch.
The tractor could be equipped with the following engines:
- John Deere (used until 1940, s/n 259334). It is a 5.1 L, 5,064 cm2, (309.0 cu·in) two-cylinder natural aspirated all-fuel engine with 140.0 mm (5.51 in) of the cylinder bore and 165.0 mm (6.5 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 3.96:1. This engine produced 18.2 PS (13.4 kW; 18.0 HP) at 975 rpm of output power (drawbar).
- John Deere (introduced in 1940, s/n 260000). It is a 5.3 L, 5,260 cm2, (321.0 cu·in) two-cylinder natural aspirated all-fuel engine. The cylinder bore is 140.0 mm (5.51 in) and the piston stroke is 171.0 mm (6.73 in). The compression ratio rating is 4.45:1. This engine produced 18.2 PS (13.4 kW; 18.0 HP) at 975 rpm of output power (drawbar).
The John Deere AR is equipped with manual steering, mechanical shoe brakes, an open operator station and 60.6 liters (16.0 US gal.; 13.3 Imp. gal) fuel tank.
The tractor variants:
- A: Row-crop
- AR: Standard front axle
- AO: Orchard
- AOS: Narrow orchard
- AW: Adjustable wide-front
