The John Deere 970 is a 2WD or 4WD compact utility tractor from the 70 Compact series. This tractor was manufactured by the Yanmar for John Deere from 1989 to 1998. The JD 970 is equipped with 1.8 L four-cylinder diesel engine and one of two transmissions: collar shift transmission with two-stage dry disc clutch (9 forward and 2 reverse gears) or syncromesh transmission with two-stage dry disc clutch (9 forward and 2 reverse gears).
