The John Deere 140 is a 2WD garden tractor from the 100 series. This tractor was manufactured by the John Deere in Horicon, Wisconsin, USA from 1968 to 1974.
The JD 140 lawn tractor is equipped with one of two engines: the Kohler K301AS gasoline engine or the Kohler K321AS gasoline engine and shaft-driven hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears.
The John Deere 140 is equipped with manual steering; integral mechanical disc brakes (in 1968), differential mechanical disc brakes (from 1969 to 1970) and drum brakes (in 1971 and later); open operator station and 6.6 liters (1.7 US gal.; 1.5 Imp. gal) fuel tank. The JD model 140 was built in two versions the 140 H1 and the 140 H3 (three hydraulic valves).

- Kohler K321AS. It is a 0.5 L, 512 cm2, (31.2 cu·in) single-cylinder natural aspirated gasoline engine. The cylinder bore is 88.9 mm (3.5 in) and the piston stroke is 82.6 mm (3.25 in). This engine produced 14.1 PS (10.4 kW; 14.0 HP) at 3,800 rpm of maximum output power.
