The Fordson E27N Major is equipped with one of two engines: a 4.4 L (267.0 cu·in) four-cylinder gasoline engine or a 4.7 L (288.0 cu·in) six-cylinder diesel engine and a gear type transmission with 3 forward and 1 reverse gears.
The Fordson Major used manual steering, mechanical drum foot brakes, wet disc hand brake brakes, open operator station and 79.5 liters (21 US gal.; 17.5 Imp. gal) fuel tank.
The tractor could be equipped with the following engines:
- Ford. It is a 4.4 L, 4,375 cm2, (267.0 cu·in) four-cylinder natural aspirated gasoline engine with 105.0 mm (4.13 in) of the cylinder bore and 127.0 mm (5 in) of the piston stroke. This engine produced 27.3 PS (20.1 kW; 27.0 HP) at 1,200 rpm of output power.
- Perkins. It is a 4.7 L, 4,719 cm2, (288.0 cu·in) six-cylinder natural aspirated diesel engine. The cylinder bore is 89.0 mm (3.5 in) and the piston stroke is 127.0 mm (5 in). This engine produced 45.7 PS (33.6 kW; 45.1 HP) at 1,500 rpm of output power.
