The International Harvester 686 is a 2WD utility tractor manufactured by International Harvester from 1976 to 1980.
The International Harvester 686 is equipped with one of three engines: a 5.1 L (310.0 cu·in) or a 5.1 L (312.0 cu·in) six-cylinder diesel engine or a 4.8 L (291.0 cu·in) six-cylinder gasoline engine and a two-speed power shift transmission with 10 forward and 2 reverse gears.

- International Harvester C291. It is a 4.8 L, 4,769 cm2, (291.0 cu·in) six-cylinder natural aspirated gasoline engine. The cylinder bore is 95.0 mm (3.74 in) and the piston stroke is 112.0 mm (4.41 in).
The IH 686 is equipped with power steering, disc brakes, two-post fixed ROPS, and 117.3 liters (31 US gal.; 25.8 Imp. gal) fuel tank.
