John Deere 260

The John Deere 260 is a lawn and garden tractor from 200 series of small tractors with single cylinder Kawasaki FC540V vertical engine 535 cc (32.65 cu-in) and Tuff Torq belt-driven gear type transmission with six forward and one reverse gear. The John Deere 260 garden tractor was produced from 1987 to 1991.

The John Deere 260 tractor used an air-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke Kawasaki FC540V gasoline engine with vertical PTO shaft. The FC540V engine has an OHV (overhead valve) design, cast-iron cylinder liner, reciprocating balancer, float type carburetor with fixed main jet, flywheel magneto transistor type ignition system, mechanical governor. The cylinder bore is 89.0 mm (3.5 in) and the piston stroke is 86.0 mm (3.39 in). Compression ratio rating is 8.3:1. The Kawasaki FC540V motor produced 17.0 HP (12.7 kW) at 3,600 rpm of horsepower and 36.7 Nm (3.74 kg·m; 27.08 ft·lb) at 2,400 rpm of torque.

The John Deere 260 is equipped with gear type transmission (4×2 2WD), mechanical clutch, manual enclosed recirculating ball steering, expanding mechanical shoe brakes. This tractor used open operator station. The JD 260 also features an electric shift type starter with an automatic compression release and a large 3-gallon (11.4 L) fuel tank.
