The John Deere 4000 is a 2WD row-crop tractor manufactured by John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa, USA from 1969 to 1972.
The John Deere 4000 is equipped with one of two engines: a 6.6 L (404.0 cu·in) six-cylinder diesel engine or a 5.9 L (360.0 cu·in) six-cylinder gasoline engine and one of two transmissions: a partial synchronized transmission with 8 forward and 2 reverse gears or a full powershift transmission (available as an option from 1971) with 8 forward and 4 reverse gears.
The tractor could be equipped with the following engines:
- John Deere diesel engine. It is a 6.6 L, 6,620 cm2, (404.0 cu·in) six-cylinder natural aspirated diesel engine with 108.0 mm (4.25 in) of the cylinder bore and 121.0 mm (4.76 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 16.5:1. This engine produced 98.3 PS (72.3 kW; 97.0 HP) at 2,200 rpm of PTO output power.
- John Deere gas engine. It is a 5.9 L, 5,899 cm2, (360.0 cu·in) six-cylinder natural aspirated gasoline engine. The cylinder bore is 108.0 mm (4.25 in) and the piston stroke is 108.0 mm (4.25 in). The compression ratio rating is 7.5:1. This engine produced 98.3 PS (72.3 kW; 97.0 HP) at 2,200 rpm of PTO output power.
The JD 4000 is equipped with power steering, independent hydraulic wet disc brakes, and open operator station.
