The John Deere 4720 is a 4WD compact utility tractor from the 4000 series. This tractor was manufactured by John Deere in Augusta, Georgia, USA from 2005 to 2014. The John Deere 4720 is equipped with a 2.4 L four-cylinder diesel engine and hydrostatic transmission with infinite (3-range) forward and reverse gears.
The JD 4720 compact utility tractor used the John Deere 4024T engine. It is a 2.4 L, 2,440 cm2, (148.9 cu·in) four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 86.0 mm (3.39 in) of the cylinder bore and 105.0 mm (4.13 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 20.5:1. This engine produced 58.9 PS (43.3 kW; 58.0 HP) at 2,400 rpm of output power for models until 2008. For the 2009 model year (tractor serial number 650001) the engine power was increased to 66.9 PS (49.2 KW; 66.0 HP) at 2,400 rpm.
The John Deere 4720 is equipped with hydrostatic power steering, wet disc brakes, two-post foldable ROPS (the Cab with heat and air-conditioning was available as an option) and 54.9 liters (14.5 US gal.; 12.1 Imp. gal) fuel tank for ROPS version and 52.0 liters (13.7 US gal, 11.4 Imp. gal) for the Cab version.
