The John Deere X540 is a lawn and garden tractor from the John Deere X-series. The John Deere X540 garden tractor was produced from 2006 to 2014.
This tractor used the Kawasaki FD731V vertical engine. The Kawasaki FD731V is a 675 cc, 41.20 cu-in V-twin 90° liquid-cooled 4-stroke internal combustion small gasoline motor with a vertical shaft. The FD731V has OHV (overhead V-valves) design; cast-iron cylinder liners; twin-barrel, internally vented carburetor with fuel shut-off solenoid; electronic spark ignition system. It has a 72.5 mm (2.85 in) cylinder bore and 76 mm (2.99 in) piston stroke. Compression ratio rating is 8.5:1. The Kawasaki FD731V produced 26 HP (19.4 kW) at 3,600 rpm.
