The Massey Ferguson 4243 is a 2WD or 4WD utility tractor from the 4200 series. This tractor was manufactured by Massey Ferguson in Coventry, England from 1998 to 2001. The MF 4243 is equipped with a 4.0 L (243.5 cu·in) four-cylinder diesel engine and one of four transmissions: a nonsynchronized gear transmission with 8 forward and 2 reverse gears, a partially synchronized transmission with 12 forward and 4 reverse gears, a synchronized shuttle transmission with 8 forward and 8 reverse gears, or a synchronized shuttle transmission with 12 forward and 12 reverse gears.
The Massey Ferguson 4243 utility tractor used the Perkins 1004.4TW engine. It is a 4.0 L, 3,990 cm2, (243.5 cu·in) four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 100.0 mm (3.94 in) of the cylinder bore and 127.0 mm (5 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 17.3:1. This engine produced 86.2 PS (63.4 kW; 85.0 HP) at 2,200 rpm of output power and 310.5 N·m (31.7 kg·m, 228.8 ft·lb) at 1,500 rpm of torque.
The MF 4243 is equipped with hydrostatic power steering, hydraulic wet disc brakes, two-post foldable ROPS or Cab (optional), and 127.2 liters (33.6 US gal.; 28 Imp. gal) fuel tank for Cab version or 129.8 liters (34.3 US gal.; 26.8 Imp. gal) for ROPS version. This tractor could be equipped with the Massey Ferguson 1036 loader.
