The New Holland 8340 is a 2WD or 4WD row-crop tractor from the PowerStar 40 series. This tractor was manufactured by New Holland in Basildon, England from 1996 to 1997. The New Holland 8340 is equipped with a 7.5 L (456.0 cu·in) six-cylinder diesel engine and one of two transmissions: a synchronized shuttle transmission with 12 forward and 12 reverse gears or a four-speed power shift transmission with 16 forward and 16 reverse gears.

It is a 7.5 L, 7,472 cm2, (456.0 cu·in) six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 112.0 mm (4.41 in) of the cylinder bore and 127.0 mm (5 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 17.5:1. This engine produced 107.4 PS (79.0 kW; 106.0 HP) at 2,100 rpm of output power.
